For this assignment I read the fourth chapter of Shawn Sears' Marquee Value. In this chapter, Jack goes to a workshop to audition for a play based on a popular television show. We see his initial audition at which he meets several people with whom he has competed with for parts in the past. The audition goes extremely well and he gets a call back. At the call back he is narrowed down to the final three and believes he was best . We are left as the casting director is trying to decide who to cast as the lead.
The chapter was very enjoyable and entertaining and I often found myself being able to relate to some of the things he did and saw at the audition which made me realize that most auditions are somewhat similar despite what their production value or the type of show may be.
The author's intent was to entertain the reader with the story of Jack possibly getting a lead role in a big production for the first time and not just being stuck in as an understudy. He used a chronological organization pattern to tell the story as and how it unfolds.

Assignment 4.08
For this assignment I have chosen to read Chapter 1 of Shawn Sear's Marquee Value. In this chapter we are introduced to the main character, Jackson Kelly and his mother and brother. We learn a bit about the character as well as the various hobbies and interests he has partaken in at some point. Then we see Jack decide to audition for the school's productionf of Tom Sawyer. His mom is supportive of him, as she is in about everything else, but does not expect this to stick around for a long time. We then see that his newfound passion for the theater did stick around and has moved to New York to pursue acting. However, Jack finds himself constantly being cast in chorus which he does nto dislike but is far from the starring roles he was able to score in high school. I found this chapter of the book to be enjoyable and relatable as I see Jackson experiencing many things that I have also experienced during auditions and working on shows. I believe the author's intent was to entertain and he used a chronological organization to show us Jackson's story.

Assignment 3.07
For this assignment I decided to read the final chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In this chapter, we see Scout has a role in a play being put on by the town where she ends up falling asleep and going on stage late. After the play, Jem and Scout are on their way home in the dark where they get attacked and we see Scout chase a man carrying an unconcious Jem with a broken arm back home after the attack. We later find out it was Bob Ewell who attempted to kill them and Arthur Radley brought Jem back home. An argument ensues as Atticus believes Jem killed Bob when they were fighting but the sheriff says he fell on his own knife and Jem should not have to undergo a trial for that. Atticus becomes upset as he thinks Jem should be honest and face responsibility for his actions. At the end we see Scout take Arthur back home after at long last seeing him face to face for the first, and last, time. I think it was a very good ending and I enjoyed the sort of resolution we get with the Bob Ewell. However, I feel the book could have gone on a bit longer at least to where Jem woke up again and we could have gotten a definite answer to how Bob Ewell died, as I believe that he was not killled by Jem or himself but by Arthur Radley. All in all, it was a good ending. I think the author's intent was to entertain us and give us a resolution to at last give a definitive end to the Tom Robinson case, as Bob Ewell vowed to get Atticus after the case. She also at last revealed Arthur Radley to Scout. In the passage I observed that she used a chronological organizational pattern. She begins with Scout's play and goes in order until she takes Arthur back home.

2.07 Free Blog
For this assignment I chose to read the first chapter from Harper Lee's book To Kill a Mockingbird. In this chapter we see a young girl introduce her family and begins to tell her story. She introduces her brother Jem and her father Atticus. She explains the origin of how her family got to Maytown county and then carries on with her story. She introduces Dill, who I assume is going to be significant to the story based on what I have read. Besides talking about who Dill is and how they met she explains what seems to be the beginning of the actual plot of the book. It begins when Dill dares Jem to go up to and touch the Radley house, the house belonging to the Radley's who are the odd family in the community that are very antisocial and keep themselves to themselves. They don't participate in any of the common neighborhood activities and have many rumors circulating about what they do during the day and at night. Jem goes and touches the door and they see a shutter flick for a second, this appears to be the beginning of the main story. The beginning of the chapter is slow paced as it is the exposition and the introduction of all the characters which tends to be a bit boring. However, once the characters were introduced and the scenario was set I found the passage to actually be interesting and made me wonder where the story would go after that. If I were to create notes on the chapter to remember the important points I would probably use an outline. Outlines are very organized and easy to create and read so I feel they would be the most beneficial to me in this case.

Assignment 1.03
The quiz I took for Assignment 1.03 gave me a result that said my favorite genre was nonfiction and my second favorite was drama. I disagree with this result. While I believe nonfiction can be interesting I do not think it would be my favorite genre as I would much rather read a story that was imagined and is not subject to limitations often placed when a story is based on a real event. If anything I think nonfiction would be my second favorite and drama should be the first.
What is the last thing you read and enjoyed and why?
The last thing I read and enjoyed was an article on the economic and political changes that took place in the 17th and 18th century in the Ottoman Empire. It was very interesting to read about how Sultan Abdul Mejid had to become more open to other cultures and make various revisions to laws and economic policies to help out the empire during its crisis. It was also very interesting to see how, despit the fact that these reforms were needed, many people actually opposed the changes and felt he had betrayed them. It was informative and entertaining at the same time.
